Hawaii police arrested 23 people on charges of driving under the influence of a intoxicant from Nov. 16 to Sunday. Twelve of them were involved in a traffic accident. Four of the 23 were younger than 21.

Hawaii police arrested 23 people on charges of driving under the influence of a intoxicant from Nov. 16 to Sunday. Twelve of them were involved in a traffic accident. Four of the 23 were younger than 21.

To date, there have been 964 DUI arrests compared with 1,046 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.8 percent.

There have been 1,354 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,404 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.6 percent.

So far this year, there were 17 traffic fatalities on Hawaii Island compared with 11 during the same period last year, an increase of 54.5 percent.

Six fatalities were related to drugs and five fatalities were related to a combination of drugs and alcohol.
